Ontstaan

• aanvankelijk dus bedoeld voor discotheek- en danspubliek in plaats van voor een algemeen publiek, zoals radioluisteraars. De muziek was populair omwille van haar typische herkenbaarheid (vierkwartsmaat).

Film

• met het uitkomen van de discofilm saturday night fever was de rage op zijn hoogtepunt.
